Our brain is divided into two hemispheres, right and left. The right hemisphere controls the left part of our body, while the left hemisphere controls the right. While that's the principle difference between the two sides, there do exist other differences that need to be looked into.

One of the most complex and remarkable organs of the human body, the brain is the most important component of the nervous system. Weighing about 1.4 kilograms, it contains about a hundred billion neurons or nerve cells. It is divided into two hemispheres: the right brain and left brain, both of which differ in terms of cognitive functions they execute.

The right side controls the left side of the body, whereas left side controls the right side. Although left handedness is associated with the right brain, the language centers are more likely to be located on the right side or on both sides of the brain.

Right Vs. Left Brain

There are many differences between the two hemispheres of the brain. The person's nature largely depends on which part of his brain dominates the nervous system. Mentioned here are ten points of distinction, each highlighting the difference between right and left brain.

The right brain is intuitive, meaning it is led by feelings, while the left brain is analytical, meaning it is led by logical approach towards problems. While the right brain makes lateral connection from the derived information, left brain makes logical deductions from the derived information.

The right brain is visual, stressing on music and pattern, while the left brain is verbal, stressing on words, numbers, and symbols.

Right-brained people struggle with mathematical formulas and words to express themselves, while left-brained people are very good at memorizing mathematical formulas and also express them pretty well.

In people with right brain domination, organizational skills are very poor. On the other hand, people with left brain domination are highly organized. People with right brain don't give attention to minute details, but people with left brain focus on each and every minute detail and step taken.

When given a task of assembling a particular thing, right-brained people will start working promptly without reading the instructions. In contrast, left-brained people will carefully go through the instructions and then start working.

When people with right brain communicate, they make many gestures with their hands. Contrary to this, people with left brain seldom use gestures when communicating. Right brain is designed to listen to 'how' something is being said, while left brain is designed to listen to 'what' is being said.

Although right-brained people don't rationalize things, they do have the tendency to question rules. On the other hand, left-brained people never question rules, instead they readily accept them.

People with dominant right brain have difficulty in prioritizing things, which makes them execute things in hurry at the last moment, whereas people with dominant left brain are well-versed with planning, as a result of which they are prepared well in advance.

The process of dividing the human brain according to structural localization is referred to as hemispheric specialization. Studies reveal that people with right brain dominance excel in fields like athletics, entrepreneurship, music, etc., whereas people with left brain dominance excel in law, accounting, etc.
